# Hermes

> Use Mixlayer models in Hermes Agent

[Hermes Agent](https://github.com/NousResearch/hermes-agent) supports custom endpoints that implement the OpenAI Chat Completions API.

## Create a Mixlayer API key

Create an API key in the [Mixlayer console](https://console.mixlayer.com/app/api-keys). See [API Keys](/api-keys) for more details on creating and managing keys.

## Configure Hermes

Run the model setup wizard:

```bash
hermes model
```

Select **Custom endpoint**, then enter:

* **API base URL:** `https://mixlayer.ai/v1`
* **API key:** your Mixlayer API key
* **Model name:** `qwen/qwen3.5-4b-free`
* **Context length:** `131072`
* **API mode:** Chat Completions

Hermes saves the provider, endpoint, and model in `~/.hermes/config.yaml`.

## Verify

Start a chat:

```bash
hermes chat
```

Inside the session, run `/model` to confirm that the Mixlayer model is selected.
