# Zero Data Retention

> Keep prompts and outputs private with zero data retention and organization-level retention controls

On Mixlayer, by default, your prompts and model outputs remain private. We process each request in memory and discard its data immediately after inference, so it is not stored for later use or used to train models.

ZDR is useful for sensitive workloads where request data must not persist after a response is returned.

## Organization data retention controls

Some optional features like the persistent Responses API require us to store conversation history. Organization administrators can control how long supported APIs may retain data. These controls are available in the Mixlayer console under **Organization Settings**.

For APIs that support stored data, such as stored Responses API requests, you can:

* Use the default retention period.
* Select **Never store** to enforce zero storage across the organization, even when a request includes `store: true`.
* Choose a custom retention window that matches your organization's requirements.

These settings apply at the organization level, giving administrators a consistent retention policy without requiring every application to configure it independently.

For Responses served over WebSockets, in-memory only stored responses are supported. Data is not persisted beyond the lifetime of the WebSocket connection.
